How toxic academia has affected students and staff in a pandemic
Our school is five minutes away from the University of Michigan. The proximity to such a highly competitive university has trickled into our own high school environment, but the fact of the matter is that toxic academia is a prevalent issue across the United States. In this project, I worked with Julie Park and Verena Wu to amass relevant statistics and incorporate a mixture of interviews from both students and staff– and while it took six months– we covered the topic holistically, the way it should be done.

Unlock artificially intelligent secrets at Decode Detroit
During my sophomore year, I wanted to escape from the typical arts and entertainment story and I found Decode Detroit, an innovative escape room located in Ann Arbor. After a bit of research, I was able to write about the intricacies of their specific theme, which was a futuristic concept integrating an AI system. Of course, as part of my research, I also participated in the experience with some of my friends. In the end, I used my lead to encapsulate the atmosphere of the experience and let the rest tell the story of the brothers who co-founded the business. Click the image for article. |
Bipartisan brothers: The Harrisons reflect on their relationship in divisive times
After the Capitol insurrection, killing of George Floyd, and COVID-19 response the nation seemed more divided than ever. So, when I heard that a conservative leader and an unaffiliated Democrat were brothers, it, one: surprised me how both ended up on opposite sides of the spectrum, and two: made me wonder how both interacted and thought about each other. The piece challenged me in terms of balancing both viewpoints but most importantly capturing a deep relationship in such politically charged times. University of Michigan students bring soul to newly-opened smoothie shop
Part of education is actually applying it. For this piece, I talked to University of Michigan Ross students Justin Schulman and Sabeen Khan regarding how they created a smoothie business from scratch, with Khan describing it “as the most rewarding experience of her college career.” Click the image for full text. |
