National Student Press Association/ Journalism Education Association (done completely virtually)
Unfortunately, during my sophomore year I didn't realize how vital the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. for the 2019 National Fall High School Journalism Conference was, and chose to stay home so that I didn't get behind on classwork. I still regret that. Nonetheless, I've still enjoyed being a part of the virtual sessions, listening to the keynotes and being able to submit for the NSMC contests. |
My winning prompt and design
For the Fall JEA 2021 NSMC I initially wasn't set on what category to submit too. I had tried news story the past year, but I honestly didn't like the prompt, and didn't express my writing in the way I knew I could. Accordingly, I chose that category again, and the prompt seemed a lot more natural to me.

In that same conference, I also won an honorable mention for NSPA Front Page Design of the Year. To see my more of my rationale and decisions behind check out the design portion of my portfolio. (Click the photo to enlarge).

Consistent excellence
The past three years I've been on staff, we've always placed in the NSPA Fall Best of Show. Additionally, the year I was online EIC we won 10th place for website, the first time we've ever placed in that publication. This year, as Co-Editor-in-Chief we were able to place our highest ever for in-print, finishing in 3rd place. (Click screenshot to enlarge, chronological from left, 2019 to right, 2021).
