Sophomores from Georgia and Scarlett Middle School start first chapter of Huron Men's volleyball club
For this piece, my favorite part was the text messages. Messages that conveyed the emotion of fulfilling something that was a long time coming, as Huron had been attempting to form a men’s volleyball team for the past three years. I still remember the expletives I had to crop out, but the messages in all caps are still as strong and exemplified the fruits of reporting beyond a traditional interview.

In light of school closures, seniors reminisce about previous spring sports seasons
As an athlete myself, I felt so badly for my spring sports friends. While winter sports seasons were cut short due to COVID-19, at least teams got to play. Spring sports didn’t– and for the athletes, that possibility was hard to comprehend at the time. Athlete mental health from the Olympics to the MHSAA
Simone Biles’ decision to opt-out of the Olympics instantly placed mental health in the spotlight for scrutiny. In my opinion, writing this piece showed development since I effectively localized the issue, which I struggled with in my sophomore year. In interviewing Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Executive Director Mark Uyl, I was able to connect Biles’ actions to any other high school athlete and spread information about the MHSAA resources available to combat those suffering from mental health complications.
